MULE DEER (Late October, early November)
Rio Costilla Park - The ranch only recently opened Mule Deer hunting to the public. After evidence indicative of an abundance of trophy class mule deer, management opened
a few tags to hunt these elusive Timber Bucks. The Mule Deer hunts are conducted in late October to early November each season. Preferred methods of hunting this wiley trophy are to locate high vantage points, glass and then stalk. Long range shooting may be required to harvest the mature timber buck, which roam the high mountain country. Snow and cold weather may move the bucks down and offer the opportunity to track and stalk as well. A well-placed ground blind in active deer areas is also a good strategy. This is a 1x1 guide to hunter ratio hunt This hunt is an excellent opportunity to harvest a 160-200 class buck, in excess of 250 pounds in most cases. This is an exciting and truly adventurous hunt for the trophy-minded hunter.
Logan, NM - With over 17,000 acres of private land in the northeastern part of the state this great private property offers some great mule deer habitat including river bottom, sand hills and rock mesa flats. Little hunting pressure makes this adventure a true trophy class opportunity to harvest a mulie buck in the 170+ range. Lots of spot and stalk is the norm on this trophy hunt. Expect lots of walking and glassing. Though the terrain is not as rough as our higher country hunts, terrain is rocky and tough on ankles. Be prepared with good foot wear, binoculars and cold windy weather gear.
